A small part of a bigger social movement
Contributing to a dialogue about change in the mental health service system
Hi, I'm Cassie Causton
I created Holistic & Integrative to live out my values in my work and contribute to a dialogue that asks all of us to rethink how we understand and respond to mental health and wellbeing.
Holistic & Integrative are words that speak to the core of the deepest learnings that I have had about mental health and wellbeing.
The way that we understand and respond to mental health needs to be holistic.
As people our mind, body and spirit are interconnected pieces of the same whole. As people we do not exist in isolation. We are in relationship with others and are interconnected with society and the environment. It is not enough to compartmentalise our distressing experiences, apply an externally determined label, prescribe medication and monitor for progress.
The way that we understand and respond to mental health needs to be integrative.
We need to draw on the best of the various bodies of knowledge that exist. We need to value multiple ways of knowing and recognise expertise in all its forms. It is not enough to privilege the biomedical model and the expertise of professionals as the source of all knowledge.
I'm an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with the Australian Association of Social Workers.
I hold a Bachelor of Social Work and a Master of Mental Health Practice, and have a decade of experience in the mental health and disability sectors in Queensland.
I'm also a certified Yoga Teacher and a lover of travel.
